What Can I Do?
Want to help bring about change? There are several ways to get on board.
1. Write
Write your representatives a personal letter and tell them your story.
- Tell them about your double or triple tax increases over the past 10 years.
- Tell them how you have to decide to buy food and medications OR pay your taxes.
- Describe how your neighbors have moved due to taxes, then how the property was bought at a huge increase, which increased your taxes, forcing you to consider how long you can stay.
- Tell them how much your assessment increased – and thus your taxes – after you painted the exterior of your house. Or added a patio. Or repaired an out-building.
- Tell them how your family home was lost due to tax increases.
- Consider the negative impact mounting property tax has on business and how companies have to compete at such a large tax disadvantage.
- Talk about the fear you have over future tax increases that will double or triple again over the next 10 years.
